The new underground tunnel in Niagara Falls opened this summer and if you’re someone who can’t get enough of the waterfall wonder, you’ll want to check it out.
Located underneath the historic power station, the new attraction will take you 180 feet below ground, where you’ll be able to explore the 2,200-foot-long tunnel that opens up right on the base of the falls.
This location was the first major power plant on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. Now, it has been transformed with immersive exhibits and restored artifacts so you can learn the history behind it.
If you’re looking to explore the tunnel, you’ll start your day off at the entrance of the Power Station.
For $28 a person, you’ll first be able to visit the actual building, which will teach you exactly how the tunnel was created and how it was able to generate power.
Once you’re done with the museum, you’ll find yourself in a glass-walled elevator, where you’ll descend into the damp tunnel. (I recommend bringing a light sweater, as it does get a bit chilly).

The walk through the tunnel is about 15 minutes long, and there are benches along the way in case you need to take a quick break.
Once you reach the end, it will open up into (in my opinion) the most breathtaking view of the falls that you will see.
You’ll be able to take in both the American and Canadian falls from nearly ground level. If you’re lucky, you could also get up close and personal with the Maid of the Mist.
As a local, I’m obsessed with this new attraction. I’ve had to take my friends and family to see the falls multiple times since I’ve moved to the city and the over-crowded sidewalks and the same-old views just weren’t doing it for me anymore.
The Tunnel in Niagara Falls is much more private, and when we went, there were only about 10 other people on the viewing platform.
This makes it so much easier to take pictures and just enjoy the view.
It was the perfect way to introduce my friend to the falls, and honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to the regular old view.
