On the eighth day of Christmas, Tipsy Theory gave to me a boozy mulled wine recipe.
If you’re a vino lover, this boozy drink is a must try for the holiday season. With just the right amount of spices, you’ll be reaching for a second glass in no time.
Mulled wine is a holiday tradition, but it’s often one of the harder drinks to make. Over multiple years of trying out different methods, we discovered a trick that made this treat so much easier.
All you need to do is make sure you have an extra coffee filter lying around, and use it as a make-shift tea bag for your spices. And Viola! You now have a flavourful, but still smooth wine.
So grab your favourite bottle of red, a few winter spices, and cozy up for this winter season.
Here’s What You Need For This Mulled Wine Recipe
Serves: 4
- 1 bottle of your favourite red wine (We used Pelee Island’s Reserve Pinot Noir)
- 2-3 oz of dark rum
- 1 orange
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- Coffee filter
- All spice, ginger, clove, pumpkin pie and cinnamon spices
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
Here’s How To Make It
1- Pour you red wine and rum into a large pot.
2- Add orange, thinly sliced, sugar and cinnamon into the mixture and stir.
3- Combine all of the ground spices into a coffee filter. Once combined, close the coffee filter and secur tightly with a piece of string.
4- Place the filter into the pot with the rest of the ingredients and turn the burner on low.
5- Let the wine simmer for around 20 mins in order to let the spices soak into the wine. (Make sure to keep an eye on the mixture to make sure it doesn’t start boiling)
6- Pour into cups, garnish with an orange slice, and enjoy!
