It may just be the start of 2023, but there is already so much happening throughout the Niagara region. One thing that is amazing about the area is that it doesn’t shut down during the colder months.
The city streets are still alive with festivals, the bars are still bustling with locals and tourists, and the wineries are still offering tastings and other fun events.
We’ve been trying to get out of the house as much as possible during January to beat those winter blues and here are some of the things that we’ve been really loving.
Drinks
Kacaba Syrah 2017
There’s only one wine club in Niagara that we’re a part of and that’s at Kacaba Winery. Our most recent vino delivery included bottles of the Terraced Vineyard Syrah 2017.
It pairs well with grilled meats, game and hearty pasta dishes.
Merchant Ale House’s Blueberry Wheat
Whenever we’ve been craving a nice, cold beer, this local St. Catharines spot is the place we go. Not only does it have great pub food, but I can never get enough of its Blueberry Wheat.
This 4.5% fruit beer has the aromas of a blueberry muffin and really hits the spot when you’re looking for something light.

Blind Pig
This is our hidden spot for a good mid-week date night. Nestled into Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls, every Tuesday and Wednesday you and your partner can dine for $50.
You’ll both get an entree and can enjoy a bottle of wine together. My favourite is the Cream Sauce Cheese Ravioli.
Inn on the Twenty
In January we needed a little bit of a pick-me-up and this restaurant in Jordan Station definitely did the trick. While it’s on the higher end, the food is some of the best we’ve tasted in the region.
You can choose between the beef tenderloin, house-made pappardelle, beef short rib and more. End the night with their Madagascar Vanilla Crème Brûlée (it’s amazing).
Things to Do
Winter Festival of Lights
Are you looking for a cheap date night? The Winter Festival of Lights is free to visit and will keep you entertained for a few hours.
You can walk through multiple displays throughout downtown and even take a peek at the falls while you’re there.
Game Night At Ludology
When the weather is too gloomy to enjoy anything outside, we love visiting this board game cafe in St. Catharines. With so many games to choose from, we’re usually entertained for hours.
The spot also has a great boozy menu to choose from if you need some refreshments.
