In case you were living under a rock the past week, or maybe you just don’t follow the technical world, the tech conference Collision set up camp in Toronto last week, bringing 25,000 attendees with it from all over the world. Being deemed the ‘Coachella for Geeks’, it housed a variety of start-up companies that are currently doing their small part in attempting to change the world. During the conference, Collision’s PITCH competition took place, which featured the best of the best battling it out for the greatest startup in the world.

PITCH is a yearly startup competition that brings the most exciting and intuitive startups to the stage to battle it out in front of a live audience. Each startup has three minutes to pitch their idea to a panel of judges, who eventually decided to the winner of the competition. It’s an extremely competitive competition that has thousands of applicants each and every year.

This year, thousands of companies applied to be part of this pitch competition but only 60 startups from around the world were able to take to the PITCH stage to showcase their projects to a panel of investors. Out of these 60 startups, 11 Toronto based companies were chosen to perform. One of those companies being our well-known sponsor Groundhogg.

Founder of Groundhogg, Adrian Tobey, started working on his new WordPress plugin back in August 2018 before releasing it to the world in February. So far, it’s been a huge success, already gaining hundreds of dedicated users.

Tobey describes Groundhogg as a marketing automation software that helps small business owners implement advance marketing strategies, without having an advanced technical background. When Tobey took to the stage to share his idea with the world, his vision was simple, he created a plugin that kept the small business owner in mind, making something that was simpler and cheaper than anything else he had seen before.

Groundhogg offers all the tools that a WordPress user needs to simplify, consolidate and automate their business including email marketing, SMS messaging, CRM and marketing automation.

Tobey is a computer tech with a marketer mind and has made a product to reflect that. Due to its simplicity and creativity, Groundhogg was able to land one of the sixty spots to compete in the PITCH competition, making it one of the most promising start-ups in the world and it’s been turning the heads of business owners ever since.

While Groundhogg was able to secure a spot in one of the most competitive start-up competitions, it’s success story is far from over. It’s hard to tell what the future holds, but Tobey feels confident. By cutting down the confusion and making e-mail campaigns that are understandable and easy from everyone to use, he’s positive that there’s no where to go but up.

Other Toronto startups also took the stage for PITCH, including Eddy Travels, BlokSec, InStage, OPIO, Rapid Stor and Reform Reality.
